RESOURCES
A Parents #1 Defense
"The more you know, the better..."
Information is a powerful tool that can assist you in developing the right treatment plan that will help your child.
Here I have compiled a list of resources that I continue to find valuable:
- Hotlines:
- Look in the local phone book for the "Blue Pages", it has list of local
hotline numbers.
- If you are in an immediate crisis, call the National Youth Crisis Hotline
at 1-800-448-4663.
- Books:
- "Skills Training for Childern with Behavioral Disorders"
by Michael
L. Bloomquist.
This is an excellant book that has charts and checklists
that I found very useful. It covers ADHD, ODD, and CD.
- "Power Parenting for Childern with ADD/ADHD"
by Dr. Glad Flick.
This is also good for those who have childern dealing with ADHD.
This book can be ordered from the ADD Clinic.
- "The Explosive Child"
by Dr. Green
This one was on Oprah. Very Good.
- WEB SITES:
- ADD Help Site
- This site is new and really good for help with ADD/ADHD. Check it out.
- Pediatric Psychiatry Pamphlets
- This site is very comprehensive. There are examples for many of the
disorders given here.
- Americas Doctor
- This is a general site that
has comunities and chat. Try it.
-
Mentalhealth Internet Resources
- This site is very informative,
easy to use and has hotline numbers.
- ADD Clinic
- Good site for ADHD. Has lots of resources, including books.
- Voucher System
- This is cute but not much to it, have to order the voucher.
You can probably make up one of your own that works better, but the idea
is great.
-
Parenting of Kids K-6
- 4-STAR. A list of links and resources that is
VERY comperhensive. Be Sure to Check this one out!.
- Bahavioral Disorders link page
- This is another links page that is good to explore.
- Council for Childern with Behavioral
Disorders
- This site ok, but not very much information for parents.
NOTE: Don't forget to check with your insurance company as well.
Most provide coverage for mental health of childern. The insurance company
can let you know what is covered and what isn't and they can provide you with
a list of approved doctors and treatment centers.
